My name is Fred Coffey. I have been a photographer, both as a professional, free-lancer, and hobbyist for over 40 years. An Art Major in High School, my photographic journey started when I joined the yearbook staff as a contributing artist, then as an intern photographer in my junior year. I was hooked right away and since that time I have been involved with photography in various capacities; working in commercial photo labs, Graphic Designer/ Photographer for an Advertising Agency in my hometown of Binghamton, NY, magazine and newspaper free-lancer, and also as a Corporate Photographer for a major manufacturer, producing images for new product introduction and promotional materials and brochures on a National level.
Since moving into the area 10 years ago, I have been photographing the Greater Capital District of New York, most notably, Albany, sharing my work on several social media sites and groups, along with being featured in various media for the City of Albany Mayor's Office.
To me, photography is about capturing light; the interplay of highlights and shadows falling on a given scene, which, in turn, can convey a mood or emotion and an interaction between the viewer and the photographer’s creative process and artistic vision. It can invoke a feeling, bring back a memory, or portray a unique perspective of places or things that may seem commonplace to the everyday locals and visitors, but ultimately, connect in some way, the subject and the viewer.
